Joe began playing Racquetball in 1976 on an outdoor three- wall court in Michigan. His biggest achievment outdoors was beating Michael Yellen one game, just one. Michael of course went on to become Racquetball’s greatest champion and Joe went on to Comedy and Acting in Los Angeles. But Joe loved Racquetball, not only the fast pace of the game and competition, but also for the incredible cardio-vascular workout you get from the sport. So he continued playing. It helped him lose sixty pounds as a result. In 1978, Joe had to relearn the game on an indoor court. Outdoor courts have no ceiling or back wall. The game is significantly different and so is the strategy for playing the game. Joe became quite adept indoors which helped him win a state sanctioned championship in Michigan, and various tournaments in Texas, Las Vegas, and California. In 1984 Joe quit playing Racquetball as his comedy and theatrical career began to advance, however he continued to play for fun whenever he had the time.
